Trump Jr. labels BBC as ‘fake news’
On Monday, Trump’s eldest son wrote on X: “FAKE NEWS ‘reporters’ in the UK are just as dishonest and full of s**t as the ones here in America!!!!”
The comment followed a report citing an internal memo from Michael Prescott, a former adviser to the BBC’s Editorial Guidelines and Standards Committee. The memo alleges that a Panorama episode titled ‘Trump: A Second Chance?’, aired in late October 2024 just before the U.S. presidential election, spliced together Trump’s remarks made nearly an hour apart.
Footage of protesters marching toward the Capitol, shown immediately after the edited clip, was filmed before Trump began addressing his supporters.
“This created the impression that Trump said something he did not and, in doing so, materially misled viewers,” Prescott reportedly said. The memo also stated that the documentary gave no indication that the video had been edited or presented out of sequence.
According to reports, BBC management rejected claims of a breach of editorial standards. The Panorama episode in question is currently unavailable.
