Border Clashes Erupt Between Afghanistan, Pakistan
(MENAFN) Fierce hostilities broke out on Saturday along the frontier separating Afghanistan and Pakistan, according to confirmations from representatives on both sides.
The confrontation follows mutual accusations of violating each other's airspace and initiating assaults.
Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defense announced that its military had carried out “successful retaliatory operations” against Pakistani forces stationed “along the Durand Line.”
The ministry described these actions as a response to what it claimed were persistent aerial strikes by Pakistan.
The declaration, issued on X by spokesperson Enayat Khowarazm, further stated that “the operation concluded” around midnight.
In response, Pakistani provincial official Jan Achakzai acknowledged the clash, writing on X that Pakistan’s military had “delivered a strong response to Afghan aggression.”
He alleged that Afghan forces had launched “unprovoked attacks” on several positions situated along the shared border, aiming at Pakistani military outposts.
According to Achakzai, Pakistan’s counter-offensive “was so intense that Afghan attackers were forced to retreat, leaving behind their casualties.”
He also emphasized that “Pakistan’s borders are secure,” and cautioned that “the Afghan government should remember that Pakistan’s desire for peace should not be mistaken for weakness.”
As of now, neither Afghanistan nor Pakistan has disclosed any figures regarding losses or injuries, and independent confirmation of the reports remains unavailable.
This latest escalation comes on the heels of blasts reported in Kabul on Thursday, which Afghan authorities attributed to aerial strikes carried out by Pakistan. However, Islamabad has not acknowledged conducting any such cross-border operations.
