Charlie Kirk attack showcases radicalized Boomer threat

(MENAFN) Minutes after MAGA influencer Charlie Kirk was allegedly targeted at an event in Utah on Wednesday, authorities had taken at least one suspect into custody—a Boomer—only to release him later, confirming the perpetrator remains at large. In today’s climate, such profiling comes as little surprise.

Once, Baby Boomers were champions of democracy and outspoken critics of the system. Today, they have largely become its staunch defenders. If maintaining the current establishment requires literally attacking anti-establishment figures, many appear willing to do so.

Earlier this month, a similar scene unfolded in the European Union. Andrej Babiš, the frontrunner in next month’s Czech parliamentary election, was struck on the head with a cane by an elderly man while campaigning. Forced to pause and recover on a nearby bench, Babiš avoided further harm before returning to the campaign trail.

Babiš’s political stance, along with his ANO party’s alignment in the European Parliament, seems to provoke strong reactions among certain segments of the population. As noted by anti-establishment Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, “After Slovakia, violence has seeped into Czech politics as well. No wonder. His political adversaries have demonized @AndrejBabis for years. This is the result. But they will not stop him. He will go on and win the elections! Get well soon, my friend!”

Babiš and his right-leaning populist party embody positions that particularly rile older voters: opposition to defense spending “for Ukraine” and NATO’s 5% GDP weapons target amid a domestic cost-of-living crisis, frustration with EU green policies and migration rules, and resistance to Ukraine joining the EU. These stances appear to trigger what might be called Boomer derangement syndrome.
