Speaking at the prominent defense and security forum, Anwar also addressed the tense situation in the South China Sea. He expressed Malaysia’s deep concern over the risk of escalating disputes among claimant countries. Stressing diplomacy over aggression, he said, “Where the dispute is far too complex. Our objective is not achieved through escalation, nor by provoking others. It is best pursued through steady, principled diplomacy.”
He urged, “We should refrain from escalation,” underscoring the importance of maintaining peace in the strategic region.
On the sidelines of the forum, Anwar held discussions with U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth focused on boosting defense ties and maritime security. “We talked about maritime security, asset modernization, and collaboration with local industries. We identified opportunities for training and developing a robust Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) ecosystem," Anwar revealed on X.
