Italy’s Mount Etna Intensely Erupts

(MENAFN) Mount Etna, situated in southern Italy and known as one of the most continuously erupting volcanoes, erupted during the night, emitting substantial quantities of ash and molten rock, as per local news reports released on Tuesday.

The eruption originated from the Southeast Crater and was characterized by repeated, forceful detonations.

These blasts generated two modest lava streams flowing in southern and eastern directions, according to the media.

In addition, a column of volcanic ash was seen drifting toward the southeast, settling on the nearby town of Zafferana Etnea.

The Volcano Observatory Notice for Aviation (VONA), issued by INGV, has now been reduced to "green," indicating the lowest level of alert for air traffic concerns.

Authorities also stated that flight activities at Catania’s Vincenzo Bellini International Airport remained unaffected by the event.

Positioned on Sicily, Mount Etna stands as the tallest active volcano in mainland Europe, reaching approximately 3,300 meters in height.

This recent activity marks the 13th volcanic episode to occur in the past several months.
